Job Description
Job Title: Civil Engineer – Grain Distillery Plant
Location: Tanzania
Salary Range : USD 800 -1200
Qualification: Diploma/ Engineering – Civil
Experience: 5-12 Yrs
Local Tanzanian Candidate
Job Purpose:
To plan, design, supervise, and oversee all civil engineering aspects of construction, expansion, and maintenance of the grain distillery plant, ensuring high standards of structural integrity, safety, and cost-effectiveness.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Project Planning & Design
- Prepare and review civil and structural designs, drawings, and specifications for distillery buildings, silos, foundations, effluent treatment plants (ETP), and utility areas.
- Coordinate with architects, consultants, and contractors for civil and structural works.
- Plan layout and civil infrastructure for process areas, storage yards, water reservoirs, roads, and drainage systems.
- Ensure proper design of RCC structures, tanks, pipe supports, and other civil foundations related to process equipment and machinery.
2. Site Supervision & Execution
- Supervise and monitor daily site activities, ensuring compliance with design specifications, safety norms, and quality standards.
- Oversee construction of fermentation, distillation, boiler, and grain handling sections.
- Verify levels, alignment, shuttering, reinforcement, and concrete work.
- Coordinate civil work progress with mechanical and electrical teams to maintain project timelines.
3. Material & Cost Management
- Estimate quantities and prepare BOQs, budgets, and cost control reports.
- Evaluate and approve construction materials—cement, aggregates, steel, and chemicals.
- Monitor contractor performance and verify bills as per executed work.
4. Quality, Safety & Compliance
- Ensure civil work conforms to statutory, environmental, and industrial safety standards.
- Implement quality control procedures for concrete, structural works, and waterproofing.
- Maintain documentation and inspection reports for internal and external audits.
5. Maintenance & Upkeep
- Conduct regular inspection and maintenance of civil structures—buildings, roads, drains, tanks, and silos.
- Plan and execute renovation or expansion works in coordination with the plant engineering team.
- Troubleshoot and repair structural issues affecting plant operations.
6. Coordination & Reporting
- Liaise with vendors, consultants, and local authorities for civil-related approvals.
- Prepare progress reports, technical documentation, and as-built drawings.
- Support project management in scheduling, procurement planning, and resource allocation.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Education: B.E. / B. Tech in Civil Engineering
- Experience: 8–15 years of experience in industrial civil projects; minimum 2–3 years in distillery, brewery, sugar, or similar process plant preferred.
- Knowledge:
- Industrial RCC and structural design
- Layout planning for process plants
- Familiarity with IS codes and industrial safety standards
- Civil works for ETP, grain silos, utility buildings, and storage tanks
Key Skills:
- Strong project execution and site management skills
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, MS Project, and civil estimation tools
- Excellent coordination and communication skills
- Problem-solving and analytical abilities
- Attention to detail and adherence to timelines
