Job Description

Location: Dodoma//Mwanza – Tanzania
Department: Compliance / Legal / Mining Operations
Reports To: Country Manager / Head of Mining Operations

Salary Range: USD 700 to 1200

To ensure full regulatory compliance of all mining and exploration operations in Tanzania in accordance with the Mining ActEnvironmental Management Act, and other relevant laws, while serving as the liaison between the company and government authorities.

Key Responsibilities:

Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure adherence to Tanzanian mining laws including:
    • Mining Act, 2010 (as amended)
    • Environmental Management Act, 2004
    • Occupational Health and Safety Act, 2003
  • Monitor company activities to ensure all operations meet licensing, environmental, and occupational standards.
  • Oversee the timely application, renewal, and amendment of:
    • Prospecting Licenses (PL)
    • Mining Licenses (ML)
    • Special Mining Licenses (SML)
    • Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) and Environmental Clearance Certificates (ECCs)
  • Maintain a compliance calendar for all mandatory filings and deadlines.

Government Liaison & Reporting

  • Act as the primary point of contact with:
    • Tanzania Mining Commission (TMC)
    • Ministry of Minerals
    • National Environment Management Council (NEMC)
    • Occupational Safety and Health Authority (OSHA)
    • Local Government Authorities
  • Prepare and submit statutory reports such as:
    • Monthly and annual returns
    • Environmental monitoring reports
    • Occupational health and safety audits
  • Support and coordinate site inspections by regulators.

Audit & Documentation

  • Conduct internal audits of compliance processes and ensure documentation is up-to-date.
  • Coordinate third-party audits and assist in closure of any non-compliance issues.
  • Maintain organized records of licenses, approvals, correspondences, and legal documentation.

Risk & Legal Monitoring

  • Identify potential regulatory risks and propose mitigation strategies.
  • Stay updated with changes in Tanzanian mining, environmental, and labour laws.
  • Train site management teams on compliance awareness and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Geology, Environmental Science, Mining Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in mining regulatory compliance in Tanzania.
  • Strong understanding of Tanzanian mining regulations and environmental licensing procedures.
